We use WindPRO software to model the environmental impact of wind farms. WindPRO is a program used worldwide for wind farm modelling and can be used to assess the impact of a wind farm on various environmental domains. Landscape impacts are assessed using visualisations or photomontages of wind farms, where the proposed wind turbines are digitally placed at representative viewpoints. If specific viewpoints are not known, it is also possible to model zones of visual influence, considering the visibility of wind turbine generators in the mosaic terrain of Latvia. In addition, wind farms create a flickering effect due to the movement of the turbine rotor blades, the effect of which can also be modelled by determining the daily flicker minutes and annual flicker hours for each surrounding building area using a worst-case scenario method or the actual daylight hours. For building areas near wind farms, environmental noise is also assessed, including low-frequency noise, using the assessment methodology set out in the Latvian guidelines.
