Computer modelling of noise

Noise modelling is performed using a computer program that calculates the sound pressure level in any area using the data of the radiated sound power and topography, and displays it on an easily readable map. We use SoundPLAN Professional 9.0 (licence number 7650) for noise modelling.

SoundPLAN Professional is a noise modelling tool for predicting noise levels. The programme is modular, so that the sequence of data generation, calculation steps and results processing can be viewed simultaneously at any time. The programme offers a wide range of possibilities for presenting the required results in the form of tables, graphs, and figures in a very flexible and adaptable way.

A 3D map of the environment is created by inserting digital maps, terrain and surface models. Data regarding sound emissions from traffic sources are usually derived from existing measurements. The model includes traffic volume, speed, road surface types and similar data. For industrial sites, the noise level of the equipment (dB) is used. Before the calculations are carried out, the relevant standards on which the noise modelling is to be based must be selected.

Noise reduction measures can help reduce noise in the environment. Using noise modelling software, it is possible to identify the necessary noise reduction measures and the possible reductions in noise levels.
