A Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment is carried out for a planning document whose implementation may have significant effects on the environment. The assessment involves the preparation of an environmental report, public discussion and consultation on the environmental report, evaluation of the results of the public consultation on the environmental report and incorporation of the results into the planning document.
Every five years, a monitoring report is prepared for the planning document. The planned monitoring activities are included in the environmental report.
Cabinet Regulation No. 157 of 23.03.2004, “Procedure for Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment”, defines the types of planning documents that require a strategic assessment, as well as the information to be included in the environmental report.
